Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses is coming to this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios in Orlando and Hollywood. Released in 2003, House of 1000 Corpses was Zombie’s directorial debut and the first of his films to feature members of the murderous Firefly family who he would later revisit in 2005’s The Devil’s Rejects and will make a gory return to the big screen in its soon to be released sequel 3 From Hell. Despite being panned by critics, House of 1000 Corpses found a cult following among horror fans.
Set around Halloween, the film follows a group of ill-fated young folk (played by actors including Rainn Wilson and Chris Hardwick) who are travelling the backroads of the American South while on the hunt for unusual roadside attractions about which they hope to write a book. While on their travels they come across an attraction named The Museum of Monsters and Madmen which is owned by Firefly clan member Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig) and instigates their grisly fate.
House of 1000 Corpses previously appeared at Halloween Horror Nights in 2010. Now almost a decade later horror fans can witness the movie come to life once again after Universal Studios announced it will return with an all-new maze inspired by Captain Spaulding’s Museum of Monsters and Madmen. Alongside a promotional video which you can watch below, Universal Studios issued the following information about the House of 1000 Corpses maze in a press release:
Now in its twenty-eighth year, Halloween Horror Nights has been terrifying visitors to Universal Studios with mazes and haunted houses for almost three decades. Past Halloween Horror Night events have featured attractions themed around horror movies and TV shows including An American Werewolf in London, The Walking Dead, The Shining, American Horror Story and – of course – Halloween.
“The terrifying “House of 1000 Corpses” mazes bring to life the movie’s offbeat roadside tourist attraction, Captain Spaulding’s Museum of Monsters and Madmen, and introduces guests to some of the country’s most infamous serial killers, including Dr. Satan, a demented surgeon who has gone mad.
Without a moment to catch their breath, guests will venture to the chaotic home of the Firefly family, a sadistic clan of psychotic killers, where the psychosis deepens and the depraved thrive. It is a chilling journey into the netherworld of terror that weaves its way through a cavernous network of dark tunnels within the bowels of the house. Populated by the degenerate victims of Dr. Satan’s debauched operations, legions of tortured creatures shuffle about as Dr. Satan continues his twisted medical practice, eagerly awaiting a new installment of victims.”
Alongside the House of 1000 Corpses maze, the 2019 edition of the event will also feature other mazes inspired by Jordan Peel’s acclaimed horror Us and Stranger Things which is returning to Halloween Horror Nights for its second year running. With Ghostbusters, Creepshow and Killer Klowns from Outer Space themed mazes also confirmed Halloween Horror Nights 2019 is shaping up to be a terrifying must-do event for any self-respecting horror fan.
Halloween Horror Nights start on September 6 at Universal Studios in Orlando and on September 13 in Hollywood and run through to early November. Tickets are on sale now and priced from $67.99 to $299.
