No, it’s not that Resident Evil Village has Mercenaries mode, although it does (more on that in a minute).

We’ve been pronouncing Lady Dimitrescu’s name wrong all along. It’s Lady “Di-mi-treesk.”

As for the new RE Village story trailer, there’s still no hint of why Chris Redfield seemingly does what he does, but we do know that Ethan travels to the village on a rescue mission. But apparently, his arrival doesn’t go so smoothly. We see the man in sunglasses — Heisenberg, presumably — dragging Ethan through an industrial area.

He escapes, and it’s a proverbial “out of the frying pan, into the giant bloodsucking lady’s castle” situation.

Even outside Castle Dimitrescu, all is not well. The village is overrun with werewolves and vicious monsters, and it’s somehow connected with Mother Miranda, the village’s patron-turned-scourge. The ritual Lady Dimitrescu mentions in her phone call is likely connected to restoring the village’s balance, but at what cost to human life and the life of Ethan’s daughter, in particular, remains to be seen.

That’s just part of the experience, though. There’s a Resident Evil Village Mercenaries mode bringing the classic arcade action back with some big new twists.

In RE Village Mercenaries mode, players can choose between several abilities to give them an extra advantage during combat. The Duke’s shop and caravan also rolls up into Village’s Mercenaries mode, offering players a chance to buy crucial items to help them stay alive.

Resident Evil Village Mercenaries is a free mode included in the base Village game.

Can’t wait to experience village life for yourself? You don’t have to. There’s a new, timed Resident Evil Village demo coming soon, and Resident Evil 4 is getting the VR treatment.
