It won’t be long until Resident Evil fans around the world will be able to return to Raccoon City, as the Resident Evil 3 Remake was announced during today’s Sony State of Play event. Capcom has seen incredible success over 2019 and the sales of the Resident Evil 2 remake were a big part of that, leading fans to suspect that a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis would soon enter development.

The original version of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis used many of the same assets as Resident Evil 2, as they were both set in Raccoon City during the outbreak of the virus that created a horde of zombies. The existence of the remake of Resident Evil 3 was leaked last week when cover artwork was discovered on the PlayStation Network, leading fans to believe that an announcement was imminent.

Sony has held a State of Play event that had several major announcements. The show opened up with a sound effect from the Resident Evil series, so the announcement for the Resident Evil 3 remake seemed assured. What many fans didn’t expect was for the announcement to be made during a trailer for Project Resistance, which dovetailed into Jill Valentine trying to escape from Raccoon City. The trailer for Resident Evil 3 showed the new designs for Jill and her mercenary allies, as well as giving a glimpse of Nemesis. Resident Evil 3 will be released for PlayStation 4 on April 3, 2020, and the pre-orders for the game are live. Those who pre-order the game will receive Jill and Carlos’ classic costumes from the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

The reason why the Resident Evil 3 Remake trailer was shown during the Project Resistance trailer is that the two are part of the same package. Project Resistance is now called Resident Evil Resistance and it comes with Resident Evil 3. Resident Evil Resistance is a co-op game that pits players against the horrors created by the Umbrella Corporation, while another player controls the monsters. Capcom has since issued a press release revealing more information about Resident Evil 3, including the fact that it’s also coming to PC and Xbox One on the same day as it will be released on PlayStation 4. There will also be a Collector’s Edition of Resident Evil 3, which contains a physical copy of the game, a figure of Jill Valentine, an artbook, a wall map of Raccoon City, a digital soundtrack, and the pre-order costume bonuses.

Resident Evil 2 was lauded by fans and critics alike for staying true to the spirit of the original game while introducing new content and concepts to the story. The story of Jill’s escape from Raccoon City also has lots of room for new content and we can’t wait to see what ideas Capcom has for the Nemesis in the remake.
