Update: Verizon’s new plans and features are now official.
Verizon is planning an announcement tomorrow and CNET reports that it’s part of a big overhaul of its plans that will see increased data caps come alongside price hikes and other new features. Customers will also reportedly soon get access to unlimited usage through a new feature dubbed ‘Safety Mode’, rollover data options, and more.
According to the report, Verizon’s plans will increase by $5 making the entry-level plan come in at $35, but it will also now come with an increased 2GB of data up from 1GB previously. Other plans will see similar tweaks:
The carrier’s My Verizon mobile app will get a new feature that will let you avoid data overage fees by enabling ‘Safety Mode,’which wiill enable unlimited data usage at capped speeds. That feature, according to the report, will be available to customers on an XL or XXL plan and to others for an additional $5 a month.
The “M” plan will go up by $5 to $50 a month, while its data will rise from 3GB to 4GB. The “L” plan will go up by $10 to $70 a month, while data increases from 6GB to 8GB. The “XL” plan will go up by $10 to $90 a month, but you’ll get 16GB, up from 12GB before. Lastly, the “XXL” plan will cost $10 more at $110 a month, but you will get 24GB instead of 18GB.
CNET previously reported that Verizon is also planning a rollover data program and improved plans for calling to Canada and Mexico as part of the upcoming changes.
