Following rumors of a possible Mac mini refresh earlier this year and references on Apple’s own website, a new report says Apple could introduce an update to the product as early as next month. MacRumors cites a source that has provided accurate tips in the past claiming the new Mac mini could launch alongside new iPads and OS X Yosemite expected at an event in October.

MacRumors has now received word that Apple is planning a Mac mini update possibly launching next month alongside new iPad models and presumably OS X Yosemite. While we have been unable to obtain corroborating information of an imminent update, the mere possibility of an update as soon as next month is likely to be welcome news to Mac mini fans. The single source has provided no additional details on what to expect in terms of a next-generation Mac mini, but has provided accurate information in the past.

Earlier this year more evidence of a refreshed Mac mini appeared when Apple mentioned a “mid-2014” briefly on its website.

Previous rumors said the update would include Intel Iris graphics, 802.11ac wireless networking, and Gigabit LAN, although that was the same report that claimed the new machine would launch back in February. The current Mac mini that Apple is still selling was last updated in late 2012.
