One of the claims made by ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft is being challenged by a new report, which suggests that they make congestion worse, not better … Ride-sharing services argue that if people can get a ride when they need one, they are less likely to own a car, reducing the number of cars on the road and leading to less traffic. However, the Washington Post says a new report has suggested that this isn’t what happens in reality, and that pool services like UberPool and Lyft Line are making things even worse....

Robert Evans, the legendary producer who gave the world Chinatown, The Godfather, Rosemary’s Baby, and more classic films, died this week at the age of 89. In the 1960s, Evans ran production at Paramount Pictures, and his credits include many of the era’s most memorable movies. In addition to the first two Godfather films, Evans helped create The Italian Job, Harold and Maude, True Grit, and Love Story. As an actor, he appeared in The Sun Also Rises and The Best of Everything....

China Labor Watch (via Gizmodo) reported today that 3,000 to 4,000 workers at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou plant went on strike earlier today due to overtime demands and lack of training....

Recently, there has been a rise of “developers” submitting fake and spammy apps on the Play Store. These apps have a name of a popular app or game that is not yet available on Android and are filled with fake screenshots. Once installed, they can install an adware on your device or steal your personal data. The only solution to this problem is to report the app as spam and then pray that someone at Google notices it and removes it quickly....

Flexbits, makers of the popular Fantastical Mac app, launched an iPhone version of its streamlined calendar app this morning with the goal of bringing the simplicity and user-friendly experience it has become known for on the Mac to iOS users. The new Fantastical app might not be as feature-filled as other third-party calendar iOS apps, but what it lacks in features it certainly makes up for in style. After a week with Fantastical for iPhone, I can confidently say the app feels like the calendar upgrade iOS 6 was missing....

There’s no doubting that the G2 is a handsome beast, from the front at least, with edge to edge 5.2” screen in almost the same dimensions as the Galaxy S4 (with its 5” display). Of course, with virtual controls here, you then lose that 0.2” (and more) immediately for most applications, but let’s not split hairs – the G2’s screen is gorgeous. Almost 180 degree viewing angles, sumptuous colours, super high contrast, full 1080p, the screen is magnificent, the pinnacle of LCD technology on phones....
