If you never use Alexa or deactivate it, you’ll never see the blue light. Building Alexa in lets you control ecobee with voice directly from the thermostat. This includes changing between heating and cooling modes and setting specific target temperatures....

Audio accessory maker Sol Republic is today launching its first product in the cord-free headphone space, the ‘Amps Air’ wireless earbuds. The launch would have been timed with the now delayed release of Apple’s own similar wireless AirPods that were previously expected to launch late this month and possibly following the company’s Mac event today. Apple released a last minute statement yesterday informing customers it needs more time to get the product right before shipping....

Ah, Riverdale, the only series that can keep fans hooked no matter how ridiculous it may get. Season after season, fans are their toes, not sure what to expect from the show next. The only thing viewers know for certain is that the core four will be there to take on whatever gets thrown their way. Rob Zombie’s versions of John Carpenter’s horror classics Halloween and Halloween II might not be the fans’ favorite installments in the saga, but they have some redeeming qualities. Back in 2007, Rob Zombie made his own version of the slasher film Halloween, followed by a sequel two years later, with both films becoming the most divisive entries in the franchise. His versions followed the same plot of the original Halloween films: a serial killer named Michael Myers stalks Laurie Strode and her friends on Halloween night, with the sequel revealing that Michael and Laurie are actually siblings....

Over the weekend, Bloomberg posted an exclusive report of Pegatron’s iPhone plant in China. Although Foxconn is Apple’s primary assembler, Apple has moved more of its iPhone assembly contracts to Pegatron in recent years to diversify its supply chain. The Bloomberg report describes how the factory is managing its workforce, tracking hours via automated systems, and tackling labor issues like overtime. This is the first time Pegatron has allowed official press to photograph the insides of the factory, where 50,000 people work on the floor....

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini feature a new design with aluminum edges, as opposed to the stainless steel edges found on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. A new report today suggests that some iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini devices are suffering from discoloration on the aluminum chassis… The report comes from Svetapple, and it explains that this (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 12 was purchased in November and has been used in a case since then....

Shipping times for the new 27″ iMac with 5K Retina Display have improved from 2-3 weeks yesterday to just 1-2 weeks today. It’s a small improvement, but it’s certainly better than nothing with the holidays right around the corner. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus also saw a drop in shipping times. Many models saw improved shipping times at the end of last month, but now almost all color, size, model, and carrier combinations are available to ship in just 3-5 days....

Robinhood, a commission-free stock and crypto trading app, has announced that they will soon launch their own fractional shares service. That means people can buy shares of stock in increments as low as just one cent. Robinhood is not the first to do this, however, and is now competing with other financial service companies and apps. But with their dedicated following, they could pull forward and become the leader in commission-free fractional shares trading once the services goes live....

Before Hulu’s Reprisal, it seemed as though the world of pulp-inspired crime dramas had been relegated primarily to Cinemax. The HBO sister network offered up two of TV’s best examples of the genre with the Bruce Lee-inspired Warrior and the Carla Gugino-led Jett. The two followed in the footsteps of the pulpy noir series Banshee, which ran for four seasons and essentially turned Cinemax into an unlikely destination for quality crime shows with a premium cable edge....

What can I say about the iPhone 6 that you don’t know or haven’t already assumed? Not much, actually. It’s running iOS 8, has a great camera, thinner design, and a handful of features that make it different from last year’s iPhone. Amid Apple’s ongoing battery repair program, iFixit today reports that “Right to Repair” legislation is gaining traction. The site explains that so far this year, 17 states have introduced bills that would reduce repair costs by opening up parts and tools to independent repair shops… Right to repair would give consumers and independent repair shops the legal right to purchase spare parts and access service manuals, giving consumers a wider array of options when it came time to fix an issue with their device....

A federal jury just convicted Rajat Kumar Gupta, an ex-Goldman Sachs director, of insider trading in a case that involves swapped information about Apple and other technology firms. According to the Wall Street Journal, Gupta was convicted on three counts of securities fraud, one count of conspiracy, and acquitted of two counts of securities fraud. The executive dabbled in a bit of insider trading when he discussed non-public boardroom information about his company and Procter & Gamble to a prominent hedge fund manager....

Specifically calling out yesterday’s Bloomberg report that said Samsung was the sole supplier of panels for the iPad 3; Reuters said today that LG is indeed providing Retina Displays for the new iPad. The previous report cited quality issues with LG and Sharp’s products as the reason they were not able to provide displays to Apple. We are a few days away from finding out one way or the other via teardowns....
