Apple Retail chief Angela Ahrendts has appeared in a video interview promoting the new Today at Apple initiative launching at Apple Stores this week. In the discussion with LinkedIn’s Daniel Roth, Ahrendts talks about her approach to leading Apple Retail to success when some retailers are struggling. Included in the video are some interesting numbers like Apple’s employee retention rate and even how many beacons were just installed overnight as part of the Today at Apple effort....

Launched as the spiritual successor of the very successful Nexus 5, it was greeted at its launch with shock and disbelief at its price – Rs 31,900 – which many (us included, check our first impressions) considered a tad on the high side for a device that was not exactly a spec barnstormer....

With Instapaper and The Magazine, Marco Arment effectively invented the read-it-later and independent publishing idioms on iOS. Naturally, competitors followed but Arment was already a ‘front runner’ in the market. With Overcast, Arment is the follower. Overcast joins a whole host of other developers in a segment of the App Store that is already well established. It’s a different set of challenges. In many respects, Overcast acts like its the only podcast app on the iPhone....

Creating an ebook isn’t difficult. If you’ve written your book in Pages, you can export to EPUB–the format needed for iBooks–direct from the app. There is also the excellent Calibre app (featured in our How-to guide), which will convert just about any file format to any type of ebook. There’s also iBooks Author, but that has the disadvantage that if you use it to create your book, you’re not allowed to sell the iBooks version through other channels....

Following Dave Bautista’s vicious attack on Ric Flair that ended Monday’s WWE Raw, the former Evolution teammates trade threats on Twitter. Over the last several weeks, WWE had been heavily promoting last night’s episode of Raw, which emanated from Atlanta, and was to feature Flair’s 70th birthday celebration. “The Nature Boy” had experienced some of the greatest highlights of his career in Atlanta, which was a hotbed for former WWE competitor WCW back when Flair was cementing his status as one of the greatest world champions of all time....

RIM has filed an ‘opposition action’ (via Patently Apple) in Canada against Apple’s trademark application for ‘WebKit’, the rendering platform based on KHTML that Apple help create before making open-source. The move grants RIM more time to build their case before a November 22, 2011 deadline. Apple originally filed the trademark application in May of 2010 which, while getting a little bit of media attention, kind of flew under the radar of most....

CIRP is out today with new data on carrier activations and growth for Q1. Unsurprisingly, Verizon and AT&T took the top two spots for the most activations, but T-Mobile did gain more new customers than any other provider. Additionally, the report gives more details on why T-Mobile and Sprint have fired up merger discussions again. For CIRP’s 2018 Q1 results, Verizon came in with 28% of US mobile phone activations, followed by AT&T in second place with 23% (down from 26% YoY)....

There’s no doubting that Google likes to shake things up in the smartphone world. The arrival of the Nexus 4 in late 2012 shocked everyone in the industry, with near flagship specs and yet released, direct to consumers, at close to ‘cost’ price. Where were the margins, the profits? It was a win for Google in gathering geek and enthusiast mindshare though, and the Nexus 5 looks set to repeat this success now, in late 2013… In fact, it’s such a superior device to the Nexus 4 that its impact will be felt far and wide....

Robinhood trading restrictions for GME and other stocks were bad for customers, the company has admitted. However, CEO Vlad Tenev denied that the company had been pressured into this by hedge fund and business partner Citadel, saying that the company had been left with no choice. Tenev said that the volume and value of trades meant that its deposit requirements rocketed … Bloomberg reports: The company initially stopped customers buying any of the stocks being pumped by WallStreetBets before allowing “limited” purchases....

Director Dexter Fletcher debunks rumors that Paramount reportedly wants to cut a provocative scene in the new biopic Rocketman. The alleged scene in question includes the exposed buttocks of the film’s star, Taron Egerton, and Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden. Rocketman is a biographical musical fantasy drama that explores the life of English musician Elton John. Born Reginald Dwight, the now-iconic singer released his studio debut Empty Sky in 1969, and has since released 29 more albums....

I often find myself sitting at my desk or working around the house while my music is playing over iTunes on my computer. For a while, I tried looking at various wireless Android apps that would give me access to my library, playlists and different playback controls, failed to find one that got it right, then over a year ago, Retune came out. It did everything I wanted and more, and has been improving ever since....

In my opinion, the worst part about having a portable battery pack to charge up your devices is making sure it actually has juice. I have a few battery packs around the house, but whenever I go to use them, they’re always dead. Sure, that’s my fault, but most of them take quite a while to charge. As expected, the AirPort devices are beginning to become unavailable from Apple as it is no longer updating the product line. The AirPort Express has been off the menu for quite a while now, but the 2TB AirPort Time Capsule, and AirPort Extreme models are now officially no longer sold by Apple. Users looking to pick up any of the AirPort products will need to look at third-party retailers or used on eBay....

It’s time to visit the town with pep once again, as Riverdale returns for season 4 on The CW - with a host of returning characters, and a few new cast members as well. The show was created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and is a dark and mature adaptation of the world of Archie Comics. The most difficult change to Riverdale’s cast this season is the loss of Luke Perry, who played Archie’s father Fred Andrews, and who sadly passed away earlier this year....

Fans of intense lightsaber action have a huge announcement to look forward to in 2019, as Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be revealed at Star Wars Celebration this April. While this latest development is only an announcement of an announcement, Respawn Entertainment is the studio that masterminded Apex Legends, this year’s sleeper battle royale hit, and the gaming world is accordingly waiting with bated breath to see what they can do within the Star Wars universe....
