Reset Windows Store If you run into a situation where an app installation hangs or fails to update, resetting the Windows Store’s cache is one of the first troubleshooting steps to take, and it often resolves the issue. The new USB-C port on Apple’s new 12-inch MacBook (review) is both a gift and a curse. The Galaxy pha series was meant to showcase Samsung’s new design approach for smartphones. had high hopes for this family of devices because the pha felt so premium compared to the rest of the Samsung smartphone family. A new report from Canalys today shares its prediction that smart speakers are on track for record growth and will be the hottest consumer tech items of 2018. Canalys believes that consumers will buy 56.3 million smart speakers in 2018, just shy of doubling from 2017 sales. The Echo Dot and Google Home Mini are both priced in the impulse buy territory of $50. Even the mid- to higher-end speakers from both companies come in around $100-$150....

Fantastical’s ability to parse natural language input and create detailed appointment entries on your calendar has always been the primary reason to use it instead of or in addition to Apple’s own Calendar app on the Mac. Apple Calendar has picked up some language parsing smarts in recent updates, too, but it still doesn’t match Fantastical’s control and real-time appointment preview. Still, I say in addition to because Fantastical for Mac has lived in the menu bar next to your clock, WiFi status, and other utilities where you can quickly access it for reference or adding an appointment from anywhere in the OS....

By now, Nest’s story is quite well known: founder Tony Fadell left Apple after co-inventing the original iPod, founding Nest to re-imagine neglected home devices with modern designs and features. Nest started with the Nest Learning Thermostat, which made HVAC programming and remote management easy — really for the first time — then released the Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, and after acquiring Dropcam, the Nest Cam home security camera....
